Micro-Energy Day 2013

On June 27 UNIPG (NiPS Laboratory) has celebrated the fourth Micro-Energy Day as part of the activities in the ZEROPOWER Coordination Action.
The initiative is presented in www.microenergyday.eu and is an initiative that takes place during the 2013 European Sustainable Energy Week.
A Science Cafè has been organized in Perugia, where young researchers discussed with public their work on microenergies and future perspectives. Luca Gammaitoni moderated the talk.

Energy Harvesting 2013: ZEROPOWER partner UNIPG invited as keynote speaker

Luca Gammaitoni, director of NiPS Laboratory at Università di Perugia (UNIPG), was a keynote speaker at the Energy Harvesting 2013, held in London on 25 March 2013.

This event provided a platform to disseminate energy-harvesting advances in the UK, and contains presentations and demonstrations from well-respected speakers in academia and industry, and posters from PhD students. Sponsored by the EPSRC and Energy Harvesting SiG.

L. Gammaitoni presented a talk on "The role of Microenergies: why studying micro energies can push the autonomous sensor market and the future of computing at once."

NANOENERGY2013 - International Conference, Perugia July 10-13, 2013

International Conference July 10-13, 2013 – Perugia (IT)
The first International Conference on Nanoenergy will be held in Perugia , Italy during July 10-13 2013.
The aim of Nanoenergy2013 is to bring together researchers, engineers, academicians as well as industrial professionals from all over the world and from different disciplines interested in the subject of micro and nanoscale energies.
Energy at small scales is a cross-disciplinary field that covers both theoretical and experimental aspects of fundamental and applied sciences ranging from nanotechnology to statistical physics, from computer science to biomedicine.
This conference, supported by the European Commission through the “Toward zero power” initiative, provides opportunities for the delegates to exchange new ideas and application experiences face to face, to establish business or research relations and to find global partners for future collaboration.

NANOPOWER second year is now completed

The NANOPOWER project has now completed the second year of activity and has reached a full maturity. It was conceived in order to address the powering issue in microscale electronic devices. The scientific objective of this project is thus to study energy efficiency with the specific aim of identifying new directions for energy-harvesting technologies. With this aim, three different classes of prospective power generators are presently under scrutiny by the six research groups composing the NANOPOWER consortium: nonlinear nanomechanical harvesters, heat rectification and quantum harvesters. For each device class significant progresses have been made. Two patents for two new concept devices are under consideration: a novel method for storing tiny quantities of energy at microscales and new nanoscale electric generators based on purely quantum devices.
